CH-53Sea StallionWiki: The CH-53 Sea Stallion is the most common name for the Sikorsky S-65 family of heavy-lift transport helicopters. Originally developed for use by the USMC, it is also in service with Germany, Iran, Israel and Mexico. In September '69, in the course of the War of Attrition, the first two CH-53s arrived in Israel, and received their Hebrew name, Yas'ur (Petrel). They were sent into action in short order. On 6/8/70 the first Yas'ur sqn. was established. They are the main cargo helicopters of the IAF, carrying troops and heavy equipment. During the '80s, IAI, along with Elbit, upgraded and improved the IAF Yas'ur fleet. The project, ended in '97, improved its avionics, robustness and extended its life to 2000.Go To Gallery
